Making significant changes in a person's lifestyle is not uncommon, and this may include a reduction in alcohol consumption. Denise Welch decided to completely remove the drink from her diet, after realizing that it had become something that she no longer wanted to have in her life. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Denise, 60 talked about his motivation to slim down. And then she revealed the rewards she had for celebrating the fact that not drinking had become something that could have become a problem.
Reflecting on why she decided to lose weight, she said: "I had given up alcohol. I had met my husband and we had made the huge decision to give up alcohol to our life – one of the best decisions I ever made.
"There is one thing that if you remove alcohol from your life, you lose weight immediately, but in reality, the opposite is often the case.
"Because, if you are an addictive personality, as I am, you very often replace one addition with another."
She then added, "So, I gave up alcohol and started to replace it with what might have been a potential food addiction, and I also obviously had years of sugar, alcohol pouring out of my veins. It had to be replaced by something.
"At first, I allowed myself not to worry about gaining weight because I felt so proud of myself that I had given up alcohol.
"It was like," Yeah, we worry if I put a few pounds! I caress my back with pies and cakes and blah blah blah. "
"Very quickly, I realized that I had put two stones, and that my frame was rather small – I only have 5 '4 – it was pretty obvious."
On top of that, Denise's weight gain saw her noticing visible changes in her health.
"My knees ached and I was out of breath," she recalls.
"I'm good enough to self-analyze on a lot of things and I thought to myself," I have problems here. I eat like I'm drinking. "
"It's not just fun to eat like that, it's potentially dangerous."
In addition to eating in secret, she found herself eating excessively.
She said about this period of her life: "I know we can all be sometimes a bit greedy because we want a little more chocolate or something else, but it's a little different."
It was then that her husband, Lincoln, suggested to her, that she decided to make a change – by announcing her plans very publicly, during an episode of Loose Women.
Wanting to change her lifestyle rather than simply changing weight, Denise started the LighterLife diet plan, which involves engaging slimming with cognitive-behavioral therapy and following a low-calorie diet plan.
